Drywall and plaster

Walls and Ceilings That Look New Again.

Bright renovated room with smooth white walls

Home Renovation Contractors installs drywall and repairs plaster across Greater Montreal, Laval, Longueuil and the North and South Shores.

Many Montreal plexes and older houses still have original lath-and-plaster walls. Sound plaster can often be repaired; badly cracked or loose plaster is usually replaced with drywall during a renovation.

Drywall work is regulated construction work in Quebec. For reference, the 2026 CCQ residential wage for a journeyman plasterer is $44.99/h and $44.29/h for a drywall taper, before employer charges, overhead and profit.

Drywall is often combined with painting, insulation and soundproofing and water damage repair.

When walls need work

Signs Your Walls or Ceilings Need Repair.

Small cracks are cosmetic; others tell you something is moving or wet behind the surface.

Cracks that keep coming back

Movement or failing plaster keys behind the surface.

Bulging or loose plaster

Plaster detached from the lath needs repair or replacement.

Water stains or soft spots

A leak to fix before any patching.

Nail pops and visible seams

Common in newer drywall as framing dries.

Holes and damaged corners

Everyday wear that a patch and corner bead fix.

Common questions

Frequently Asked Questions.

More answers: home renovation FAQ →

Should I repair or replace old plaster walls?

Sound plaster with small cracks can be repaired. Plaster that is loose, bulging or widely cracked is usually replaced with drywall, especially when walls are opened for wiring or insulation.

How long does drywall finishing take?

Each coat needs time to dry, so even a small room usually takes a few days from hanging to sanding.

Do you remove popcorn ceilings?

Yes. Older textured ceilings are tested where needed before removal, then finished smooth.

What drywall goes in a bathroom?

Moisture-resistant board for walls and ceilings outside the shower; cement board with a waterproof membrane behind shower tile.

Can you match a repair to the existing wall?

Yes. Patches are feathered, sanded and primed so they disappear once painted.

Is drywall work done by licensed trades in Quebec?

Construction work is regulated in Quebec; we work under our RBQ licence with qualified trades.
